About UniAdmissions UCAT Tuition

What Our Students Say

50 Hours of Support

Our UCAT tuition gives you the best possible chance of getting the highest score. You can use your hours how you see fit. Here’s an example of 50 hours of expert tuition:

You will receive an hour of application advice from an expert tutor who has been through the process before, and passed with flying colours. They will help ensure you have the best possible application.

You’ll get 6 hours of Verbal Reasoning tuition. This section aims to assess your accuracy and speed of reading; important traits for a doctor. With just under 30 seconds to answer each question, this is a very time constrained section which needs practice.

The Quantitative Reasoning section tests your ability to quickly interpret data and perform calculations. Your tutor will go through all of the key concepts required for this section and provide expert guidance on how to do well in it.

The idea behind UCAT abstract reasoning is to test how well the candidate is able to respond to questions that may go beyond the scope of their knowledge or require them to apply their existing knowledge in an unusual way. Your tutor will teach you expert tips on getting the answers quickly.

The idea behind the UCAT Decision Making section is to assess how you use information and data to make decisions – a skill that is essential to working effectively as a doctor. The questions come in a variety of styles, but all are focused on testing your decision making ability. Your tutor will work with you on how to best answer these types of questions.

The aim of the Situational Judgement section is to assess your ability to understand situations that you could encounter as a medical student or doctor and how you would deal with them. Some universities employ a cut-off for low SJT scores so it’s integral to perform well in this section.

You’ll get access to all of our online resources which will give you plenty of practise on top of the support we will provide.

You will receive The Ultimate UCAT Collection (5 books in 1)

The UCAT guide contains powerful time-saving strategies that allow you to answer difficult questions within the time limit as well a massive amount of practice questions written in the style and difficulty of the real exams, along with fully worked solutions to all past paper questions and further practice papers.

Tackle those Problem Areas

Improving your UCAT score is a two-way process and the more you put in – the more you’ll get out. Whilst tutors are happy to cover topics that will undoubtedly be useful, you will gain more from the sessions if you come prepared and armed with questions. Students who tend to improve the most are also the ones who persistently ask their tutor for focus on their weaknesses, week after week! We asked our UCAT tutors to give some examples of past sessions that they’ve conducted to give you ideas about what is possible.

Verbal reasoning is a common challenge. Often low results in mock papers increase the worry about the Section 1 score even more. To start off, I first go over what each of the important keywords mean e.g. True, False, can’t tell and how to differentiate between them.  I then show relatively simple examples to aid slowly building into the more challenging examples. Pointing out keywords that are usually ‘hidden-away’ in the passage that often changes the answer.  I do timed drills to see if they can use the skills they’ve acquired under time pressure. This does wonders for their confidence and I finish the session with some homework that includes more verbal reasoning questions that we review in the next session.

Prini, UCAT Tutor

This is a common issue and not surprising given that you have to do 36 questions in 25 minutes (approximately 41 seconds per question)! However, there are a number of fairly straightforward techniques that can be used to improve speed dramatically e.g. knowing when to use calculators, reading the options before the data. Depending on each student’s mental maths capabilities, I will pitch my teaching appropriately to help each student improve their abilities to make rapid calculations. Not only is it useful for the UCAT, it’s even more important for your studies and for medicine. We then start looking at how to approach this section strategically, finishing with some practice questions from the UCAT book for the next session.

The UCAT Abstract Reasoning section is my favourite. There is always initial confusion and frustration over the section because it cannot ‘be solved.’ However, by following a simple system, the answer can be found for approximately 90% of the questions within the time limit. Before the session,  I get the students to read through the Abstract Reasoning Section in the UCAT book which introduces the system with some worked examples. We then start off with simple patterns (e.g. number of edges, direction of arrows) and then slowly build up to the more complex second-order patterns. At the end of the session, I set them 20 more questions to do for the next session to help practice the system.

Usually in a location that’s convenient for you and your tutor. In some cases, it may be possible to have the sessions at your house, depending on your location. If you’re not near these locations, you can get tutoring via Skype.

Absolutely, we’d encourage you to do so as the biggest benefits of one-on-one tuition are that you can get time with your tutor to work on exactly what you want to. Make sure you give your tutor enough notice (at least 5 days) for them to prepare the appropriate materials.

If you haven’t had your first session yet, call our team on 020 8064 0770 to start things off. Your dedicated tuition manager will match you with a tutor that is best suited for your needs and call or email you to confirm the time and location of the first tutorial. This is usually done within 24 hours.
